See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19
I had the opportunity to travel with my husband to Hong Kong this past March of 2011, not only did I get to go but we managed to take our 16 year old son with us too! I have to point out this is definitely one more added benefit to homeschooling! I love being able to take our sons places for real life cultural learning! When I sat down to write about Hong Kong for this blog, I knew I had a lot to share, to write about and it could almost be a book in itself, but the one travel story that sticks out the most was the experience on the Star Ferry near Wan Chai.
Our experience on the Star Ferry to Mongkok, this was one interesting situation for us and so unexpected. We heard about Mongkok being a must see place in Hong Kong so we hopped on the ferry and it was night. We were on this ferry with an amazing and gorgeous view of the city's skyline, traveling at about a 15 mph speed, just minding our own business while we enjoyed the view of the lights of this magical city. When we docked in Kowloon we stepped out of the boat and noticed this crowd of people all sitting like they were on a platform of stadium seating at a ballgame or a concert. We didn't know what they were staring at until we realized that there was this crazy and unusual loud music playing in the distance of the city's skyline, and not only that but the city every night at 8pm they have a laser light show and we just past it all and missed it while we were sitting peacefully on the ferry! All this going on literally right above us and we didn't even notice a single bit of this and we had the best seat in the city! If we had only known and were aware of this 'show' we would have been all the more amazed at the sight and the sounds and the fascination of it all! This makes me think about our lives and the wonder of it and all that is available to us all and are we even aware of it? Have you stopped dreaming, hoping and are you really "living" life? Are you traveling along in life on your own "boat", totally absorbed in your little own world that you are missing out on the gems that are on shore? Are you so engulfed with your own problems, your own worries, concerns and even the positive and good things in your life but you are so self-centered not able to have control of your oar out of the boat to maneuver how you may need to meet the needs of others in your life and change the coarse of your life's current? Sometimes I feel we miss God's plan because of reasons like this and as the verse in Isaiah 43:19 says "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it will spring up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."
God has amazing plans for you, right under your nose, right beneath your feet, we need to lift up our heads from hanging them down low in discouragement so we can see all that is going on around and above us!
Psalm 121 "I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. "
