Colossians 3:12
I love the holidays and I think most of us do really enjoy Thanksgiving. I know so many however who still do get quite stressed during this special turkey day because of tensions at home or the hustle of the day if they travel or have family strained relationships. We have ways to combat these inner battles if we pay attention to God's word.
This is one of my favorite scriptures from the bible, well actually whole the book of Colossians. There is something about the verse here that is interesting with the use of the word "clothe". It says to clothe or in another version of the bible it says "put on" compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Reading it with a microscope of understanding is helpful to me because it is saying to us that these traits do not come 'naturally' and it kind of makes me feel better knowing that for some reason. God knows that we are not naturally going to feel this way when we wake up is one way I read this, who usually does you know?
When we wake up each morning we put on our clothes, we put on each piece of clothing one by one and not all at the same time, or at least that is how I have always dressed myself. So now if you read that verse again we are to (as God's chosen ones) clothe (put on) these attributes, one by one to go out in the world, or with your family, your neighbors, with your coworkers or your boss and this Thanksgiving day. Making it a goal to 'give blessings' of thankfulness, one by one.

Today have you “put on” :
Compassion (a feeling of deep sympathy)
Kindness (generous, considerate)
Humility (not proud or arrogant)
Gentleness (strength under control)
Patience (the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble or suffering without becoming angry or upset)
In Galatians, chapter 5 it talks to us about walking and living according to the spirit.
“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.”
