A New Year to Draw Close

I was driving in the car with my husband and I said "you know it's sad when I remember when we were first married we would sit close in the car as we drove, I would be right next to you.." and my husband looks at me, thoughtfully and says, "I am still here, I am in the same place, I have never moved."

I heard this and it made me really think. How true this is in relationships but I see a very interesting spiritual parallel between us and God with this analogy. I don't think we always intentially move away from The Lord, I think it's sometimes a gradual and slow process and then we wonder where he is.  So many of us feel times when we feel God is not there and other times we sense His touch, His presence, His comfort much stronger, we tend to say "God, remember when you were right there, where are you Lord?" In James 4:8 it says "Come close to God and he will come near to you." He has always been there, he is the foundation of the world and of our hearts and lives. So the next time you feel God has moved from the driver's seat of your life, remember that He is not the one who moved, and scoot a little closer back towards him and embrace His love.
