Simplicity

Proverbs 3:3 "Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck and write them on the tablet of your heart."

I have had this photo in my Iphoto album for a few years now. I loved this trip to my In-law's house in De Soto, Kansas. Fireflies at night, our sons catching them in jars, prairie walks at night with stars lit up so bright there is no need for a flashlight. A simple life with mailboxes out front of country homes and neighbors who you can trust to pick up your mail for you. A town in the heart of this country...Kansas. Where there is an echoing voice in  your mind when you are driving around the streets, "There's no place like home."

Remember when a simple and less "tech" life existed and a letter was all you needed to send to a friend, family members and bill collectors? It wasn't that long ago when all we did was take a walk out to our mailboxes and licked a stamp and off it went! I think it's important to sometimes reflect and go back to the 'ancient ways, the good ol days" and just stop the rat race that we now have as Facebook, Twitter, and so many other apps I can't even name them all! Now email is seemingly ancient communication for that matter!

With the increase of technology with means of communication alone I see more and more people able to connect with people and long lost loved ones and old childhood friends but more people today seem to appear more lonely and despondent. Why is this? It is too bad this is a reality and is true. I want to see life as an opportunity to stay with the 'times' and the modern resources we all have, and I am one who actually loves the social media we have and I use it all the time. However, I want to live as this verse in Jeremiah says, ""Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it.." God's word is encouraging us to 'ask for the old ways" here and that is significant to me. I see in this scripture God knows we need reminders of the way things used to be and what worked. There is nothing like driving through an older town that has kept it's antique look! i cherish it, I love technology but I want to never forget the old ways and learn from it. Just like simple kindness and love to people around you, that will never be out of style or grow old.

This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, 'We will not walk in it.' Jeremiah 6:19
