Psalm 16:8-9 says "I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure." One of the things that can help us to rejoice in the Lord always, is to try to think of things from an eternal perspective. When we focus on what is going on here and now, it can be very overwhelming. However, if we view our circumstances in the light of eternity, we begin to see things more clearly, and with a sense of hope, purpose and strength. No matter how difficult our trials, there is an end to them, and if we have trusted Christ for our salvation we have the glorious hope of heaven to look forward to. We can know that all grief and pain has an end. There will be perfect unity in heaven...no more strife or misunderstandings. Best of all we will be with Jesus face to face. If we keep our eyes on Jesus during our trials, recognizing that He is always with us, we will have greater strength to deal with our circumstances. We can rejoice that He has promised to always be with us. "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5) So keep seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, knowing that "all these things will be added into you." (Matt. 6:33) Compared with the wonder and glory of heaven, the things of this life grow "strangely dim". Let's pray for that eternal perspective today, realizing that all we do to serve the Lord, even the attitude of our hearts, He sees, and is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
