I have learned the secret again of how to have a close relationship with someone, and that friendships, marital or not, sister, brother, mom or dad, son and daughters alike all require getting through the tough times and the good. We have to be willing and able to go the distance. Like my recent love-hate relationship with the airlines, I have come to realize I need them, and yet they annoy me. I have to put my annoyances aside to allow the 'system' of making plane ticket arrangements, flight changes and cancellations, and delays and work with it. Screaming on the inside of how it is 'upsetting' my plans and having attitudes isn't going to change the travel itinerary now is it? Then there are times where I want to feel the airlines are my best friend, like the time I traveled to my destination and back having been blessed with a full row to myself and even the time I received a free flight voucher due to a delayed plane. It's all about attitude and making the best of it.
It is the same with conflict resolution in dealing with our many relationships we have daily in our own world of friends and siblings and relatives. We have to remember what God's word advises us to have success in these as well.
In Philippians 2:4 it says,"do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.
Also in Proverbs 17:17 "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity."
What are you doing today that is directly affecting a negative reaction with someone in your life that you know you personally can change for the better. Remember, we are only responsible for the actions on our own part. Sometimes giving a little grace goes much further than you would ever know, and you may not know simply because you haven't tried. So I am thankful for what the airlines does for me and I am noticing when my attitude is better, the problems of too much traveling and the issues associated with it are much easier to deal with.
