"You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways."
This wind instrument was created by the maker to do just that; make a sound for the one who owns this unique gift and to bring happiness those who listen, an enjoyable sound of comfort.
The other day the Santa Ana winds were really picking up here in Southern California where we live. We have these nice wind chimes in the backyard, actually it was a gift from my family one year for Mother's Day. Personally, I love the stronger the winds blow, the greater the sound from the chimes, I love the sound but we didn't want to upset the neighbors, so we decided to tie up the chimes so they wouldn't make any sounds. That didn't work, the winds picked up stronger and the tie broke free and they were even louder. This time we decided to bring the wind chimes indoors and we hung them up on our plant hook on the ceiling. We went to bed and in the morning I came downstairs and pretty much forgot that we put them inside. I looked up and noticed the chimes just hanging there lifeless inside my house. I thought to myself, 'that looks really out of place' having my wonderful, glorious wind chimes inside my house, just sitting there in silence, not moving. Then I thought of purpose.
The creator, the maker of the wind chimes had a design in mind, a concept, a 'purpose' for them. They are supposed to be outside, with WIND! They are intended by the maker to crash, clang and sing! If you take them out of their intended reason and purpose, they don't shine and they are just useless and dead. You have a purpose...your Creator made you with a certain personality, your hair, your skin, your past, your present and your future, is all for a purpose. You have talents, gifts and it's all there for a reason, intended to shine, grow and know what that plan and reason is. Are you living your life's purpose? Are you in a place that is tying you down, just like that example of the chimes in my backyard? Sometimes we need reminders of simple things like this. Why do we need reminders? We need them because we all forget. Sometimes we don't realize or know our gifts, talents and more importantly we forget to be connected daily to our own Creator, the one of knows us even more intimately than number of sands on the beach, and who knows how many hairs are on our heads.
In Isaiah 43 it says "You are my witnesses, declares the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He." And in Ephesians it tells us "In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory."
